Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I book onto one of your workshops?
A. The most reliable way to find out about and book a workshop is to have your email on our database - you will then receive first notification of workshops and will also receive priority over a casual enquiry.
You can send you details to: [email protected] or go to the Contact Us page and fill in the form.
Workshops open for bookings via an email to my database; potential participants can then indicate their wish to book on via reply email, they will then receive a booking form with information on how to finalise their workshop place.

Q. What happens if I need to cancel my place on a workshop?
A. We work on a payment upfront system, with a full refund if the workshop is cancelled. Bookings are only secured by payment. If you need to cancel for any reason we ask that you find someone to take your place - you must let us know if you will be doing this - or, if we have a waiting list we're happy to slot someone in for you and refund your money.
Q. What materials are generally required?
A. A materials list specific to each workshop will be sent via email to participants a couple of weeks before the workshop itself. Below is a more general list to give you an idea of what you'll need.
General Materials list:
Usually you may work in any media (wet or dry) of your choice – acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal, pencil, gouache, etc. and on any substrate (wood, paper, canvas – all should be adequately primed).
Drop sheets (as many as you have!)
Rags/tissues
Apron or protective clothing/gloves
Easel/stool (there are some tables and lots of chairs at the venue, but there are NO easels –if you wish to use one, you must bring it with you – you may bring a table easel or a free standing easel)
Clips and board (particularly for the first day for working outside)
Paper/sketchbook (a cheapish paper is good for warm up sketches/experimenting)
Canvases, boards – whatever you normally work on.
Pencils/charcoal and eraser/knife or pencil sharpener (spray fixative if needed)
Paint/brushes/palette knives/palette or mixing board and jam jars (whatever materials you would normally use to paint).

Q: I am a beginner - which workshops should I attend?
A: Different workshops have different levels associated with them. This will be indicated on the flyer that is released for each workshop. Usually the standard is all inclusive - beginner to advanced. Here the teacher will teach individually to each participant's standard. Advanced painters will be challenged with new techniques, beginners will be encouraged with help and information. Sometimes previous experience is advised as the workshop is focused solely on more advanced learning. Check the flyer.

Q. How much do your workshops cost?
A. We endeavour to keep all our workshops accessibly priced so that many different people can attend. Currently workshops range in price from $300- to $400- for the weekend. We believe this is a highly competitive price within the current market and bearing in mind the calibre and experience of the artists that are teaching.

Q. Where do I stay? Is accommodation included in the workshop price?
A. For those who don't live locally there are many fantastic places to stay in the Jervis Bay region.
Have a look at our accommodation page for links and suggestions.
We do our best to keep our art workshops accessibly priced and so do not include accommodation in the price of the workshop. Our participants are then able to stay in different places according to their own budgets.
Please note: Alison's Art Workshops at Jervis Bay does not accept responsibility for your accommodation costs in the event of a workshop cancellation, so please consider the cancellation policies of any accommodation you book very carefully.
